Dear Legion Member:  As a result of discussions with District Command of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Winnipeg Beach Legion Branch #61 has made the decision to close the Branch for the rest of the year 2020.  This decision is made in the interests of continuing safety measures for our Legion members, their families and our community from the COVID-19 pubic health pandemic.

All events and fundraisers planned for the remainder of 2020 will be rescheduled forward to 2021, including our craft sales, Fall Supper, annual Remembrance Day service and the November General Meeting/Elections.

If the situation permits, we will look forward to welcoming back our members and our community during our anticipated reopening of the Branch in January 2021.  At this time please stay positive, and follow the provincial guidelines to keep you and your loved ones safe.  We will be in touch again at a future date.

Dear Legion Members: We have been asked, as a Legion, why we are closed while other Legions are open.  Each Branch makes its own decisions based on their size, financial reasoning and their volunteer base. Some Legions operate with paid employees and need to be open to qualify for government aid during the COVID-19 pandemic. We do not qualify for government aid as we do not have paid employees. Three persons within our Branch receive a honorarium for their service, they are not employees. The large majority of Branch 61 duties are carried out by a very dedicated and limited volunteer base.
Our main activities are Lakeside Seniors card group twice a week, casual floor curling once per week, bar service once per week and Healthy Baby parental group meeting once per month. At this time of the COVID-19 protocol guidelines card playing/sharing is not authorized, and no more than 50 may gather in the building which eliminates the possibility of our fundraising events and rentals. Our Friday night bar volunteers are not willing to perform bar duties at this time, and without their support we cannot offer bar service. We do not have volunteers who are willing to sanitize the building before and after each use of any of these groups. There are many circumstances and considerations taken by all Legion branches regarding their reasoning on whether to open or not during this challenging time.
Rest assured that the Winnipeg Beach Legion Branch 61 Executive will continue to reevaluate its position on being able to safely welcome back our Veterans, our Members and the community. We will continue to maintain the financial security and prosperity of our Legion Branch, and will resume our activities and fundraisers when it is deemed safe and financially sound to do so. While the Branch may be closed, our Executive is operational, and we are there to help with any questions or concerns that you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact the Branch if you have questions or concerns.

Comrade Clinton Kennedy
Winnipeg Beach Legion Branch 61
Dear Legion Members:  For your information, President Lorraine Andrushuk has stepped down as President of the Winnipeg Beach Legion Branch 61 due to health reasons, as of 12 August 2020.  1st Vice-President Clinton Kennedy is now President of the Winnipeg Beach Legion, and Comrade Jim Stewart has been appointed as Acting 1st Vice-President until the next General Election.  Past President Lorraine Andrushuk will remain as Ways and Means Co-Chair and Lotteries Chair for 2021 until the next election.  The next Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Elections will be held on 23 November 2021.

We are currently hoping and planning to reopen Branch 61 in early 2021 as previously scheduled, if provincial guidelines and regulations permit our ability to open at that time.  As a result of our Provincial grant approval and the general membership approval, the kitchen renovations have begun with the installation of the new commercial stove and hood vent.  The new folding chairs will be purchased in the very near future.  We look forward very much to welcoming back our Veterans, Members and the community in 2021.  Please take care to stay well.
